Robyn Schachter and Associates Psychotherapy
Every individual who comes in for therapy is unique. You may be looking to alleviate stress and focus on a particular problematic area of your life or you may be striving for personal growth and transformation. I meet you where you are and tailor my approach to address your specific needs. The relationship between you and your therapist is essential to the healing process. I focus on getting to know and understand you so that you feel safe to express your feelings. You set the pace for the work in therapy. We address issues when you feel ready to do so. Using a collaborative approach, we will work together to understand and make sense of your experiences and to identify and understand the obstacles that prevent you from fulfilling your goals, needs and desires.
How can you help with Anxiety?
Work Related issues Anxiety Life is a journey full of ups and downs. At times, we are able to tackle and overcome the obstacles in our path, but sometimes we feel overwhelmed by what we face and need some support. Therapy can be helpful when we may feel overwhelmed from a wide spectrum of issues including: relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, loneliness, retirement, career dissatisfaction, career loss or change, grief and loss and issues with self-esteem.
We will work together to make sense of your experience, identifying patterns and ways of relating that no longer suit your current circumstances. I will assist you with the opportunity to express your emotions and feelings in a safe, supportive environment. We will work together to empower you to live the life you want to live. Anxiety is a normal part of the human experience and is necessary for our survival. However, sometimes anxiety can interfere with our lives, leaving us feeling powerless confused and scared. Anxiety manifests in a variety of ways. It can take the form of constant worrying, feeling anxious in social situations, phobias, fears of speaking in front of groups, debilitating panic attacks that make it difficult to do the things we love or just the ordinary tasks of living, obsessive thoughts, or repetitive behaviors that we feel compelled to do for fear that something bad will happen.
Excessive anxiety restricts our ability to interact with the world freely. I use a psychodynamic approach that addresses the underlying causes of the anxiety, while providing specific tools to cope with and decrease the anxiety
What is Depression?
Depression is estimated to affect one in four people over the course of a lifetime. Feelings of sadness are a normal part of human experience, however feelings of deep sadness over a prolonged period of time may indicate the need for assessment by your physician, depending on what else is going on in your life.
Some of the indicators for depression include:
• Low mood for longer than two weeks.
• Loss of interest in things that used to interest you.
• Irritability, anger or aggressiveness.
• Changes in sleeping or eating patterns
